If you send textual correspondence to an individual, repeating the content of the correspondence in verbal form is both, redundant and, conceivably, an act of arrogance; inferring a sense of urgency that could be on-sided.

I submit that a request for confirmation of the correspondence is an adequate method to determine the level of urgency by the recipient.

In short:
Sending me an email and then walking to my office to tell me what was in the email can be perceived as rude. It might be better to simply ask if I received the email or had the opportunity to read it.
